One-Spot Snapper (Lutjanus monostigma)

This is one of the smaller species of reef snapper found throughout the South Pacific. They can been seen swimming solitary or in small schools around reefs, wrecks or other structures that provide cover. The bright yellow fins and small dark spot on the side towards the tail are the distinguishing features of this species. As most snapper species, these fish a sought after food fish. Fishermen are most likely to come across this species when bait fishing or micro jigging around the reefs. These fish can also be taken spearfishing like Sam did to land this beautiful specimen in the picture above.
